My Unforgettable Experience

During the Christmas holidays, my elder brother Mark and I stayed home and we made paper planes together.  I did not know how to make one, so he taught me how to fold it. “You need to follow my steps carefully or you will mess it up,” said Mark.  I was eager to learn, so after a few practices, I succeeded. 

After that, I suggested having a competition.  I stated the rule, “Whoever throws the paper plane the furthest, he is the winner.”  So, we stood aside and I threw my paper plane across the living room.  While Mark was about to throw his paper plane, Mom peeked out of the kitchen and said happily, “I’m glad to see you boys play together.” 

Mark threw his paper plane weakly.  And guess what?  I won!  I was very proud of myself, so I did a little happy dance.  But I wasn’t going to be happy for long.

The next day rolled around.  It was Mark’s birthday.  So, Dad bought a birthday present for him.  It was a toy plane.  It was red and blue, Mark’s favourite colours, and even the newest model.  I felt very jealous, so I stood aside, crossed my arms and frowned.  Mark thanked Dad and said, “Thank you!  I’m very thankful for this gift.”  I rolled my eyes and mocked him, “Thank you.  I’m very thankful for this gift …blah blah blah!” “Hey!  That’s not very nice!” said Dad.  “Whatever,” I abruptly ended our conversation.

In the evening, I tiptoed to the sofa and took Mark’s toy plane.  Mark came in and shouted, “Hey, let go of my toy plane!”  We pulled very hard and somehow it broke.  “Bang!” “Uh-oh,” said both of us.  Mum came in and scolded me.  I burst into tears.  Mum said, “You need to ask for people’s permission first if you want to use or play with others’ things.  How about you guys make a deal to share your toys?  I will tell Dad about this.”  When Dad knew it, he rushed back home with a bottle of glue.  He took the toy and glued it back in place.  I’ve learnt a lesson that I should not feel jealous of my brother so easily.  Mark also learnt to be more generous and that sharing is caring.
